"We just got back from a great trip ... and thanks to you and your great advice, [we] saved money and time! ... In total we saved about $3,000.00 for our group of 6. We are going back within a year to use our passes again, and think our per person cost will be in the $150-200 range, flights and all." Michael Barrett, Wisconsin Rapids, WI
Debbie writes: "I need to have good access to a hotel that i can return to in case my elderly mother-in-law needs to rest. She is handicapped and i will need a wheelchair." Stay at a building near the food court (which is close to the bus stop). At All Star Music, choose Calypso. At All Star Sports, choose Surfs Up. At All Star Movies, choose Toy Story. Caribbean Beach is just too spread out and requires a lot of walking. Martinique and Trinidad North are closest to the food court, Old Port Royale. At Port Orleans Riverside, choose buildings 14, 15 and 18 at Alligator Bayou or Oak Manor at Magnolia Bend. (Oak Manor is beautiful!) At Coronado Springs, choose the Casitas. At Port Orleans French Quarter, choose buildings 2 to 5. Be sure to read our chapter on "Disney and the Disabled."
Janice writes: "When traveling, I prefer to stay in "new" hotels/motels (opened within the past year or two). I'm not having much luck finding out which ones are newest in and around Orlando. I've even contacted the Chamber of Commerce twice by e-mail and have received no response (and can't find an 800 ph.# to them). Any suggestions as to how to find out when these places were built/opened?" Contact the Orlando Chamber of Commerce and Visitor's Bureau at 800/643-9492 or 407/363-4871.

Cindy writes: "Why is it that only 4 people are allowed in a room at the All [Star] Sport [resort]?" The room can accommodate a crib for an infant as well. Disney requires a family of five or more, not counting a baby, to stay at the more expensive resorts where the rooms are bigger.
"I thought I knew all the tips for saving money at WDW, even being a member of the Magic Kingdom Club for over 15 years, but just learning about [your ticket agent] saved our family over $300.00! Thanks." Janet Handy, Bel Air, MD "Plenty of roadside outfits in Orlando promise discounted tickets, but most of them really want to rope you into a time-share sales pitch in exchange for vouchers - accept at your own risk. [Affordable Disney's ticket agent], though, is legit." The New York Post, November 16, 2004.

Tina writes: "i have been told that there is a picnic area and that you can take in coolers and your picnic lunch, is this true?" Picnics are permitted at all the water parks, at Parrot Cay in the middle of Barefoot Bay at Caribbean Beach, and near the creek behind the Meadow Trading Post at Fort Wilderness.
Carrie writes: "I noticed on the internet that there is a swan boat which people can get on, do you know anything about this?" Boats travel from the Swan and Dolphin resorts to Epcot and MGM.
Wade in Memphis writes: "We booked our vacation ... for the month of May. We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge for 7 nights... We were told they didn't have any discounts available for the resort. I didn't think any more about it as we waited for May to arrive. After reading your addendum I noticed the offer for the time period we were going to be there. We changed our reservation today to take advantage of this offer. We had a standard view room for $229 a night. Under the current offer they only had courtyard views remaining. Bottom line - We just saved $555 and upgraded our room! Apparently there is also a break on the Ultimate Park Hopper passes. Thanks for a great service! Glad I joined."
Lisa writes: " Thanks to all the great tips from your book our trip to WDW was fantastic. When I left for Orlando I felt like I was ready for anything. I had heard that the bus service for the Wilderness Lodge was bad but we had no problems at all getting to our destinations. My family and I would highly recommend the Wilderness Lodge to anyone thinking about a Disney Vacation. It was so breathtaking, from the moment we first stepped in the door to the day we left. We could not get over how incredible the whole place was... Thanks again for the money and time saving advice."
Laura writes: " I just love your newsletter! By the way, where can I get info on the spas at Disney and their offers? Thanks!" There are only three real spas at WDW (where you can spend a half or whole day being pampered): The Floridian, Sarartoga Springs, and the Swan and Dolphin. The spas at the resorts are just hot tubs that Disney calls spas (All Star, Fort Wilderness, Polynesian, and Shades of Green do not have hot tubs).
Laura writes: "I tried e-mailing WDW, but got a list of very expensive resorts, even though I explained we have 4 children, ages 6, 5, 3, and 2. ... Do they EVER have lesser expensive options in rooms that house more than 5? Are we the only large family that wants to go to WDW?" Those with 6 or more in their party pay the most at WDW. Yes, there is a Disney hotel that accommodates 6 affordably. The details are in our book, Secrets To An Affordable Walt Disney World® Vacation.
Joseph writes: "i just purchased your info on disney and am very pleased. i do have one question that i hope you might be able to answer. if i decide to stay off property, will i still be able to do any of the following? take the sassagoula river cruise, visit parrot and cay islands, tour fort wilderness and hike the wilderness swamp trail and go canoeing? thank you in advance for your reply." Those staying off property will have to show their driver's license or valid passport to rent a canoe. To have access to all of WDW, including the resorts, boats, buses and monorails, you need a resort ID, a multi-day pass, or an annual pass. A valid theme park ticket allows you to use the ferries and monorails that travel between the Ticket and Transportation Center and the Magic Kingdom, but you can't use the buses.

Becky writes: "I have really enjoyed the affordable Disney information. In a weak moment, I offered to coordinate a Disney family reunion. Ultimately it will involve travel from 6 states with about 17 people ranging in age from 8 to 71. We've all poured over information and hopefully will end up with vacations that everyone enjoys. Here's my question. Some of the group is going to be staying at the Wilderness Lodge and some will be staying at the All Star Resorts. How easy will it be to move between them? I'm particularly interested in having the All Star folks come over for dinner and the water light show at 9:45pm one of the evenings. Will that be too late for an easy return and will it be a problem the first night when we won't be using our Park Hopper tickets? Thanks in advance." Glad you like the book! It makes all the work worthwhile when we can help so many have a fun and affordable WDW vacation! To return from Wilderness Lodge to All Star late at night, you will need to take the bus from Wilderness Lodge to the Transportation and Ticket Center, catch a bus to Pleasure Island (Marketplace will have already closed at 11 PM), and then another bus back to All Star. (The buses run until 3 AM or one hour after Pleasure Island closes at 2 AM.) It would be easier to use a rental car or take a taxi. A taxi from one resort to another will cost about $10 + tip. Never fear that you will be stranded -- if you notify Disney that you have missed all the buses, they will send a van for you free of charge to take you back to your resort. You don't need to use your tickets to use the WDW transportation system. If asked, just show your Resort ID card. (If you were staying off property, you might be asked to show ID to use the Disney buses, although we haven't seen the drivers do this in many years. In that case, your tickets would serve as an acceptable form of ID.)
Robert asks: "Does your book show me how to save money and stay at the "Boardwalk" Disney property, or do you focus in on the less expensive Disney hotels?" We also include the more expensive hotels. To join our Disney family, click here.
How old to make a reservation? A young sales clerk asked us that question the other day. She said that some of her friends at college wanted to pool their money and make a reservation, but they weren't sure if you had to be 21 years old. Well, those college kids better start saving because you only need to be 18 years old to make a reservation at WDW. Of course, we told her to tell her friends not to go without knowing the Secrets To An Affordable Walt Disney World® Vacation!
Kim writes: "We are celebrating our boys' 8th birthday (yes, they are triplets!) at Disney and this is the first time that we have ever taken them. ... We were wondering ... how we could best incorporate a birthday celebration into our visit. Also, how can we get them involved in the parade or other special stuff to make the occasion even more memorable for them?" Have your kids wear a Disney T-shirt and have them close to the parade route on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom when cast members start looking for helpers. Request a free "It's My Birthday" button at the Town Hall in the Magic Kingdom. Cast members will wish your sons "Happy Birthday" when they spot the button. Let them stop at the Kidcot stations at Epcot for creative fun. --------------------------------------- Barbara writes: "I am taking my grandson to WDW for his fifth birthday. I would like info on the birthday parties." The Sandcastle Club at the Beach Club Resort can organize a party. Call 407/934-3750 for details and reservations. For kids four or older. Offers a party complete with decorations, fast food, cake, arcade and video games, Disney movies on TV, and swimming at the pool at Stormalong Bay.
The Fireworks Cruise includes boat, decorations,
cake, beverages and Illuminations fireworks show at Epcot. Cost: $220 + tax.
Call 407WDW-PLAY for more information or to
make reservations. Money saving tip: Have lunch or dinner at an inexpensive restaurant and let Disney provide the birthday cake. WDW resorts and theme parks accommodate groups of all sizes. Call 407/939-3463 to order your cake and reserve your table(s).
Don Shula, former coach of the Miami Dolphins, opened his 14th restaurant - Shula Steak House - at the Dolphin, replacing Harry's Safari Bar and Grille. The restaurant accommodates 175 diners. Entrees cost $21-45, but $60 gets you the three-pound porterhouse steak -- and your name on a plaque if you can eat the whole thing before you leave! Plans are to serve dinner only for the time being and to add lunch later.
Moira asks: A family of 5 can stay at a Disney Resort hotel for less than $130 per night USD! Details are in our book, Secrets To An Affordable Walt Disney World® Vacation! Another visitor writes: "I have gone to your web site and will be buying the book in June. I enjoy the web site very much, it gave me hope that Michael Eisner's' price fixing and price elevations can be worked around THANK YOU! I am planning a trip next year after Christmas for 2 adults, 4 children - 5 years, 8 years, 11 years and 12 years. But if an incredible deal came up I would be willing to take it sooner. Because of such a large family I really need to be careful of cost. I am trying to work out a budget and was wondering: - do you have any super deals for a family of 6? - are there specific times during the year that INCREDIBLE DEALS/PACKAGES are available?" Disney does offer discounts on its larger accommodations at certain times during the year. We list those deals at our members-only site as soon as they are announced. We also offer strategies to help you save the most on Disney's more expensive hotels. For more details, see Secrets To An Affordable Walt Disney World® Vacation!
