News From Around The "World" "World-class theme parks and attractions are not the only reasons for visiting Walt Disney World Resort. There's fishing, too, with trophy-sized largemouth bass in the 14-pound range lurking in lakes and canals almost within casting distance of Cinderella Castle. Popular "catch and release" experiences around the Vacation Kingdom promise to "lure" even more guests to the Disney lakes, as Walt Disney World announced a new line-up of BASS fishing excursions with the nation's preeminent authority on the sport of fishing... Prices range from $195-$215 for parties of five, and typical tour hours can be arranged for early morning, mid-morning or early afternoon. Guests can make reservations up to two weeks in advance at 407/WDW-BASS (2277). General BASS tours are also available for children, ages six to 12, for $30 per child for one hour." "Walt Disney World is slashing the number of blackout dates for its four-park seasonal-pass holders, a move that could boost business as the region's tourism industry heads into what is traditionally the slowest month of the summer... pass holders will get an extra three weeks to visit Disney's theme parks this summer." Melissa and her family visited WDW in May, 2004. Here is part four of her trip report: Monday, May 24 "We went to Magic Kingdom. This is a very overwhelming park because there's just so much to do. We started to the left side of every park this time around and it really paid off at MK. After visiting with Snow White and Peter Pan we went to the Agrabah Bazaar store and loaded up on Aladdin and Jasmine souvenirs (my daughter is a huge fan). Our first ride was the Jungle Cruise, which was a relaxing boat ride, aside from the lame jokes the tour guide insisted on telling. The Pirates of the Caribbean was too dark, we could barely see a thing. We rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which was quite exciting, while we killed time for Splash Mountains fast pass. Splash Mountain was a fun water ride, the animatronics of Brer Bear, Fox and Rabbit were cool. The hill of the ride was something but we didn't get as wet as I expected. Our photo was hilarious so we purchased it. We got the fast pass for the Haunted Mansion, which was kind of a let down, I expected more. Somewhere in between there we rode the Disney Railroad roundtrip (which is a must for tired feet). It's a Small World closed without notice (this was one of my favorite rides at MK). We skipped the parade here too due to video-taping. We left for a break then came back for the evening. We got on Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, which is always an adventure! The wait was only 15 minutes. Next we went to Toontown and rode the Barnstormer at Goofy's Wiseacre Farm (this ride was too short!) I videotaped the kids playing in Minnie & Mickey's Country Houses and Donald's Boat. Our last attraction was Mickey's PhilharMagic. This was a wonderfully put together 3D movie with great special effects and delicious smells. After we left PhilharMagic we found a spot on a couple of benches to view the new "Wishes" fireworks show. The fireworks were breath-taking! Getting out of the park after the fireworks was a real drag. Overall MK is still my favorite theme park, there's still so much that I haven't done or seen yet." MELISSA'S TRIP REPORT CONTINUES BELOW
4-Day Park Hopper Pass Special Purchase Get them for $10.00 less than Disney charges at their site! It comes with all the bells and whistles of a normal 4-Day Park Hopper, but it expires 14 days from its first use. However, for people who plan on going just 4 days, it's a great deal. This pass is only available for advance order purchasing. 4-Day Park Hopper Plus Pass Our ticket agent writes: "I have acquired the new Disney 4-Day Park Hopper Plus Pass. It is not sold at the gate or AAA. You get 1 "plus" day for the Water Parks or Pleasure Island. It has no expiration date." You must purchase this pass in advance. So order early! Our agent also has great prices on tickets to other popular attractions in Florida. "I thought I knew all the tips for saving money at WDW, even being a member of the Magic Kingdom Club for over 15 years, but just learning about [your ticket agent] saved our family over $300!!! Thanks." Janet Handy, Bel Air, MD Details on how to purchase these special passes will be provided with your Disney access codes as soon as you join our Disney family.
Melissa's trip report continues: Tuesday, May 25 "We slept in and got a late start at the Downtown Disney Marketplace. When we arrived we went to the AMC Theater to see Shrek 2, which had a great storyline in comparison to the first movie. After the movie we killed some time at DisneyQuest for about an hour before heading over to Planet Hollywood for lunch. I arranged for priority seating at 3 pm for this restaurant and we were seated immediately upon entering. We received a coupon for this restaurant for 25% off our meal from Disney. This was provided as part of our package deal along with two pins and lanyards. This restaurant is a nice place that displays statues, props and paraphernalia from scenes of popular movies. We took loads of pictures and great footage of all three levels of the restaurant. The food was quite tasty too! We walked around and visited several stores. We then returned to DisneyQuest for the rest of the afternoon. Now the question is, what didn't we do at this place? With four levels of video games that don't require coins for usage we were all in heaven! I spent most of my time on Pac Man, Mrs. Pac Man, and Centipede. You can really lose the day at DisneyQuest, by the time we checked our watches it was almost 8 pm. We basically spent the whole day there! We returned to our resort and played in the Fantasia and toddler pools until about 10:30 pm. The kids had a great time and made quite a few friends that evening." TO BE CONTINUED NEXT WEEK
DID YOU KNOW? WDW's Food and Wine Festival runs Oct. 1 through Nov. 14. "After eight years of serving up millions of delectable food, wine and beer samplings during a month-long festival, Epcot launches the fest two weeks earlier with new festival marketplaces and an expanded lineup of guest chefs and featured dinners, wine schools, tastings and pairings... Entrance to the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, plus wine and beer seminars and cooking demonstrations, is included with regular Epcot admission. " Disney provides five kennels - one at each park and one at Fort Wilderness - where you can board your pet. Disney also accommodates "rabbits, ferrets, small rodents, birds and non-venomous snakes (provided guests supply a carrying case). All cats and dogs have to be at least 8 weeks old to be kenneled." Animals must have current vaccinations. You must walk your dog twice daily, but Disney will walk your dog for you for $2.50 per walk. Cost: $6 per pet, per day or $9 per pet, per night (for resort guests). Day visitors pay $11 per pet overnight. Your pet can stay with you at Fort Wilderness, but Disney charges a fee of $5 per day.
