(Source: Orlando CVB Newsletter, 05/14/04) "Walt Disney World has installed high-security, anti-terrorist barricades similar to those protecting the White House, U.S. embassies and nuclear-waste depots. The hydraulically powered, steel barricades block the service entrances of the giant resort's four theme parks and were apparently designed to stop a 20,000-pound truck bomb traveling 70 mph." But that powder could be contaminated with deadly lead, warns the Food and Drug Administration... The Sentinel recently spotted candy that has tested positive for lead in a few outlets, including Colonial Market in Orlando, some Publix and Albertsons stores and in the Mexico Pavilion at Disney's Epcot." "A family from India says ... someone broke into their Disney hotel suite and cleaned out their safe, stealing thousands of dollars.... Anand says desk clerks at the Wilderness Lodge told her someone called from the room claiming to have lost their safe key. 'So, they actually sent an engineer up who made a second key for this person,' she explains." (Source: wftv.com, 05/10/04) For the rest of the story, click here. Are You Suffering Withdrawal From WDW? You know ... that empty feeling you get when you arrive back home from your vacation at WDW and realize it may be a while before you experience that Disney magic again? We have had that feeling ourselves many times. Yet, we always seem to feel better when we read about the experiences of others who share their trip reports with us. It's almost like being there again. We invite you, our readers, to send us some feedback about your experiences during your latest vacation at WDW. Reports on Disney weddings, honeymoons, cruises, and resort vacations on and off Disney property are all welcome. Send your email to: johngross@affordabledisney.com . Thanks!
"[Your travel agent] Beth is now on my list of officially amazing people - she worked tirelessly for us in securing the category we wanted on the 14-day repositioning cruise for May 2005. As you know, the phone lines went insane on 05/05/04 when DCL opened up the "Go West" cruises. She persisted, she hung in there and thanks to her, we got a very hard-to-get Category -- she is that rare person that "goes the extra mile" for sure! Kudos to you for recognizing that and having her as your agent... I would never have found her if it hadn't been for Affordable Disney!" C. W., Glenelg, MD |

NEW! 3-Day Park Hopper Pass Good luck in finding this one somewhere else! No restrictions. Unused days never expire. Hurry! Supplies are limited. 4-Day Park Hopper Pass Special Purchase Get them for $10.00 less than Disney charges at their site! It comes with all the bells and whistles of a normal 4-Day Park Hopper, but it expires 14 days from its first use. However, for people who plan on going just 4 days, it's a great deal. This pass is only available for advance order purchasing. 4-Day Park Hopper Plus Pass Our ticket agent writes: "I have acquired the new Disney 4-Day Park Hopper Plus Pass. It is not sold at the gate or AAA. You get 1 "plus" day for the Water Parks or Pleasure Island. It has no expiration date." You must purchase this pass in advance. So order early! Our agent also has great prices on tickets to other popular attractions in Florida. "I thought I knew all the tips for saving money at WDW, even being a member of the Magic Kingdom Club for over 15 years, but just learning about [your ticket agent] saved our family over $300!!! Thanks." Janet Handy, Bel Air, MD Details on how to purchase these special passes will be provided with your Disney access codes as soon as you join our Disney family.
John and Matt continue the report they sent us last week regarding their visit to WDW during spring break: "Here's a real puzzle for you though -- In each of the rooms is a special green trash can and notice asking guests to recycle their aluminum cans, plastic bottles, etc. to be environmentally friendly. And the bathrooms have notices requesting help to save water by not having housekeeping replace used towels. But then, in the cafeteria *everything* is served on paper plates and covered with clear-plastic lids. Even though we were planning on eating in the seating area, they insisted on putting on a plastic lid -- because that is where they put the barcode sticker for the cashier! You cannot believe the volume of plastic (lids and silverware) that goes straight to the trash can! Come on, Disney... Since Pop Century is the newest resort, none of the guidebooks are totally accurate on the resort. Most common comment in the guidebooks is that Pop Century doesn't have a adult-beverage bar, but it does -- carved into the corner of the dining seating area and open only in the evenings. Also, we never saw the much ballyhooed Fluffer-Nutter peanut butter and marshmallow cream sandwiches on tie-dyed bread that was often recommended. Maybe they were just too much culture shock and quietly disappeared? But the tie-dyed cheesecake was not bad! Across the lake from the Pop Century Classics Hall is the currently moth-balled Legends Hall and a few of the room buildings. Disney stopped construction on this part of the resort due to the travel economy taking a big nose-dive after 9/11. All of the buildings are totally painted a shade of dirt brown. Even the large decade signs outside Legends Hall -- 00, 10, 20, 30, & 40 -- are painted the same brown. It is kind of eerie to see these ghostly buildings off in the distance..." Thank you, John and Matt, for your wonderful trip report!
Cynthia writes: "My family is planning a trip to WDW Thanksgiving week, 2004... when should we call for reservations? Secondly, there will be fifteen of us and we're going to get four rooms at a WDW resort. I have heard good and bad about the newly renovated French Quarter and was wondering what you think. In addition, we have two handicapped people in our group and we need a resort that is not so spread out, and without a long walk to the bus stop. ... Thank you so much for all the great info you provide. We have a lifetime membership to your online book, and we absolutely love it! God bless." Priority seating reservations (arrive at your assigned time and receive the next table available for your size party) can be made 90 days in advance by calling 407/939-3463. Exceptions include Lunch With a Disney Artist (30 days), Victoria & Albert's (up to 180 days), Disney's Spirit of Aloha (up to 2 years), Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue (up to 2 years), Candlelight Processional Dinner Package (when available), and Mickey's Backyard Barbecue (when available). Disney books reservations 5 to 10 minutes apart. If 6:30 PM is unavailable, try 6:35 or 6:40 PM. Here's a priority seating calculator. I have not seen the French Quarter since renovation, but I prefer Riverside. Wherever you stay, you need to tell reservations about your handicapped friends and ask for a building close to the bus stop. Glad you are enjoying your membership!
