Other Vacation Specials:
News From Around The "World" "Permanent security gates will be built at Disneyland... Bowing to terrorism fears, the Walt Disney Co. plans to build the gates at the Disneyland Resort next year. The company had resisted security gates around Disneyland and the California Adventure theme park next door, believing the sense of fantasy would be spoiled... The 20,000-acre (8,000-hectare) Walt Disney World in Florida also has increased security, but without adding gates, park spokeswoman Jacquee Polak said." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 03/11/04) For the rest of the story, click here. Screamscape.com is reporting: Magic Kingdom: "Snow White will be closed from April 19th to May 21st... Magic Carpets of Aladdin from May 28 to July 17th and Dumbo from August 24 to November 4th. Then there is the rumored closing of Small World from June 7th, 2004 until March 18th, 2005." (02/25/04) Stitchs Great Escape: "Construction Walls have gone up around the old Alien Encounter building to allow exterior work to begin." (03/08/04) Epcot: "AT&Ts Global Neighborhood area that you pass into as you exit Spaceship Earth was boarded up the other night. The bit in the rides soundtrack that mentions it just before you exit has also been removed... [AT&T is no longer the ride's sponsor]... It seems the Imagineers also took the time to update the News broadcast scene on the way "down" to include new footage of the Mars rovers." (03/08/05) Test Track is open again after refurbishing. "One noticeable change is apparently some new message while approaching the seat belt check point. Unfortunately, the crashing car effect (just before the barrier test) is still dead and will remain so... the Single Rider queue does not appear to be open every day like it used to." (03/08/05) NOTE: Links to newspaper articles change quickly and without notice. If you receive a "File Not Found" error message, search the newspaper's archives for the story.

4-Day Park Hopper Pass Special Purchase Get them for $9.00 less than Disney charges at their site! It comes with all the bells and whistles of a normal 4-Day Park Hopper, but it expires 14 days from its first use. However, for people who plan on going just 4 days, it's a great deal. This pass is only available for advance order purchasing. 4-Day Park Hopper Plus Pass Our ticket agent writes: "I have acquired the new Disney 4-Day Park Hopper Plus Pass. It is not sold at the gate or AAA. You get 1 "plus" day for the Water Parks or Pleasure Island. It has no expiration date." You must purchase this pass in advance. So order early! "I thought I knew all the tips for saving money at WDW, even being a member of the Magic Kingdom Club for over 15 years, but just learning about [your ticket agent] saved our family over $300!!! Thanks." Janet Handy, Bel Air, MD Details on how to purchase these special passes will be provided with your Disney access codes as soon as you join our Disney family.
Beth, our travel agent, writes: "I'm always amazed at how many Florida residents don't know about the Disney Dining Experience, a program created just for residents! The cost is $75 for a one-year membership, and renewals are usually less. If your a resident annual or season pass holder then the cost is $70 the first year. You can join by calling 1-407-566-5858. It takes about 2-3 weeks to get your card, and it can ONLY be mailed to a Florida address. You can not request expedited shipping. Membership gets you 20% of dining for you and up to five friends at dozens of restaurants, from food courts at the hotels to Victoria and Albert's, Chef Mickey's, the best restaurants in Epcot, and more. You also get private invitations to special events, free parking at the parks (in a special area), a newsletter, and discounted admissions to Pleasure Island, Atlantic Dance Hall, and more. Please keep in mind that you have to present your card and a valid Florida ID or driver's license each time the card is used, and the benefits are nontransferable. The card holder must be present. LOTS of people are part-time Florida residents for tax purposes, so if that includes you (or you live here year 'round) then a single family trip to Disney can justify the cost of the program."
Sheryl writes: "A guy we know works for a time share company and has offered to get my family in the parks for $30 per person per day. But we don't get a ticket. Without a ticket we can't use the fastpass or park hop. Is the fast pass worth the extra $20 per person per day? Also, since we will be there in mid march will it be too cold for the water parks? Does Universal Studios use fast pass system?" Even Timeshares have to give you a ticket to enter the parks if that's part of the deal. Ask them to explain that. All ticket holders get to use FastPass. In March, temps are in the low 50's to lower 80's - swimming during the day will be ok. The pools are heated, so you can also swim at night. But it sure is cold when you get out of the pool! Universal Express Pass allows all guests to get priority access to certain attractions and rides. Universal Express Passes are available until one hour before closing (or until they are all taken) at 20 different distribution centers scattered throughout Universal's two parks. Passes can be used one hour after the park opens until closing. Universal Express Ride Access allows guests staying at the hotels on Universal property (Royal Pacific Resort, Portofino Bay Hotel and the Hard Rock Hotel) to enjoy no wait unlimited access to the rides and attractions at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure every day of their stay. Hotel guests must show their room key card at the Universal Express entrance to each attraction.

Vanessa writes: "Yes I am going through Disney withdrawals. I just returned 3 days ago from a 3 day cruise aboard the Disney Wonder. This was my second cruise and I am already trying to plan the next one. I truly am a self admitted Disney freak. Being a Florida resident I have been buying the season passes for the last 3 years. I frequent the parks and resorts. I have had hidden mickey experiences happen to me at work, I've taken the backstage tours. I really love the place. My dream being a firefighter is to eventually end up working for reedy creek, Disney's fire dept. I'll list a few things I have done. Resorts I've stayed at: Allstar music, movies, sports, Coronado Springs, Port Orleans - French Quarter, Dixie Landings (Port Orleans - Riverside), Caribbean Beach Resort, Pop century Resort, Disney Institute, Wilderness lodge, Ft Wilderness...Many of these multiple times. Vero Beach and Hilton Head resorts. I've done two cruises on the Disney Wonder. I've taken the 7 hour Backstage magic tour (which went underground Disney)." I wrote Vanessa back and asked for a Disney cruise trip report, which she kindly sent. I'll post her report in next week's newsletter. We invite all our readers to share their vacation experiences with us.
