Lisa writes:

"We read all your Disney updates, they are great. What is E-Ride night at Magic Kingdom, also?"

E-ride night was replaced by Disney's Extra Magic Hours program.

Resort guests (those staying at the Disney-owned resorts, the Swan and Dolphin, Shades of Green, and Downtown Disney's Hilton) can visit select parks before or after they open to the general public:

  • Morning Extra Magic Hour: resort guests can visit one hour before the park opens.

  • Evening Extra Magic Hours: the parks stay open three hours after closing for resort guests. You need to show Resort ID (your Key to the World Card) at designated areas in the park two hours before park closing to get a wristband that entitles you to remain in the park.

Extra Magic days and the attractions that will be open are subject to change. Get the current schedule at Guest Services. The park that opens early is more crowded. Avoid the park that is offering early entrance or leave as soon as the park opens to the general public.

Carol writes:

"Hey John! We are headed to Orlando in a few days! Do you know whether there are fireworks on Extra Magic Hours nights? Thanks for all of your helpful info. We will head straight to see [your ticket agent] on the day we arrive. Thanks!"

Since Extra Magic Hours take place before and after the park closes, they have no effect on the fireworks show. For Disney's schedule, click here.

David is staying at one of the Downtown Disney Resort Hotels:

"are Extra Magic Hours specifically reserved for [those staying at] the disney [owned] resorts...?"

Resort guests (those staying at the Disney-owned resorts, the Swan and Dolphin, Shades of Green, and Downtown Disney's Hilton) can visit select parks before or after they open to the general public.

With the exception of the Hilton, the Downtown Disney Resort Hotels are no longer participating in "Extra Magic Hour." However, guests are guaranteed admission to the four Disney Theme Parks with a ticket or pass, even when the parks are full.

"My family and I just returned from DisneyWorld today. And, I just have to tell you that your book was more than just an immense help--we were able to negotiate thru the crowds with great ease via the shortcuts. And, the FASTPASSes were fantastic! We used them for Indiana Jones, for BuzzLight Year, for Star Tours, for Splash Mountain and especially for Kilimanjaro Safaris.

What was even the best of all, we were able to take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours! We just walked right on to Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise! Then, we headed toward Splash Mountain! We were able to ride BuzzLightYear (3 times), ExtraTERRORestrial (1 time), Splash Mntn. (1 time), Country Bear Jamboree (1 time), the Timekeeper (1 time), Space Mntn. (1 time), and we saw the following characters: Minnie Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, Donald Duck, and Chip/Dale."
