Although Walt Disney World is the number one destination for honeymoons in the world, Disney does not require you to purchase a vacation package to enjoy "honeymoon" treatment. Just notify the staff that you are newlyweds and Disney will do something special for you. It is not unheard of that Disney will give you a free room upgrade if one is available! For more insider tips, see our book, "Secrets To An Affordable Walt Disney World® Vacation."
Walt Disney World Resort Offers Tips for a Beautifully Budgeted Dream Wedding Wedding Bells Ring for June Brides LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. Brides on a budget can still have a Cinderella-like wedding at Walt Disney World Resort if they know where to save and when to splurge. Every bride wants to feel like a princess for the day, and at Disneys Fairytale Weddings we can make that dream a reality, said Korri McFann, marketing director Disneys Fairytale Weddings. The beauty of a Disney wedding is that we can tailor the occasion to suit almost any budget. Each year Disney hosts more than 1,500 weddings ranging from elaborate affairs to small gatherings. Wedding bells ring year round at Disney, but June is an exceptionally popular month with hundreds of weddings staged throughout property. With more than 20 unique hotels in every price range, four world-class theme parks and hundreds of restaurants to choose from, wedding and honeymoon options at the Vacation Kingdom are nearly endless. McFann said while many couples choose to exchange vows at the renowned Disneys Fairytale Wedding Pavilion, other on-site locations can be just as enchanting. Disneys Polynesian Resort offers a picturesque lookout point for intimate nuptials. Disneys BoardWalk Inn has romantic lakeside gazebos and beachfront locations and Disneys Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground welcomes those looking for country casual. Current research indicates that destination weddings remain a popular choice for couples. According to a March 2009 survey by theknot.com, 1 in 5 couples planned an out-of-town wedding in 2008. For brides and grooms looking for ways to rein in the budget and economize on the big day without giving up the magic, McFann offers the following tips: * Select an off day of the week. Couples can save big if they choose a Thursday or Sunday wedding over the tradition Saturday evening affair. * Because of the number of venues, Disney can host weddings at various times of the day. A mid-morning wedding is a great alternative. * Check out non-traditional reception venues such as themed restaurants. * Couples choosing a destination wedding will likely tighten the guest list. * Select brunch or heavy appetizers instead of sit-down meals. This is not only acceptable but growing in popularity. * Out-of-season floral choices can make a big dent in a wedding budget. McFann suggests working with the florist to determine what flowers are in season. Another tip is to use floral arrangements from the wedding at the reception for added decor. * Get creative with your family or bridal party and design homemade favors. * Take advantage of the current discounts on hotels and wedding packages. Brides and grooms participating in the survey also indicated that they were seeking inventive sites rather than traditional ballroom-like venues. McFann recommends Epcot as the ideal setting for couples looking for exotic backdrops with themed entertainment, rich culture and diverse menu offerings. Couples who have always wanted to travel to Europe can now tie the knot in Italy and stroll over to France for a fun-filled, Parisian-inspired reception. The international dining options at Epcot are endless and they dont require costly decorations. Brides entrust wedding planners to take care of all the wedding details big and small. Disney wedding planners act as fairy godmothers taking care of every detail from invitations and flowers to music and menu. Disneys planning services are complimentary. According to theknot.com nearly 41 percent of couples used full wedding planning services in 2008. McFann said even though brides are trimming their budgets, there will always be elements of a wedding that they will continue to splurge on. For some brides, it is their dream to have Cinderellas Glass Coach, and for others, it is dramatic photography and video, she said. It is all about making choices and determining what is important to you on one of the most memorable days of your life. Top Honeymoon Spot Disneys Fairy Tale Honeymoons lets lovebirds choose the getaway of their dreams. Newlyweds can explore theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort, sail away on board Disney Cruise Line or relax in an oceanfront room at Disneys Vero Beach Resort. And dream-come-true honeymoon packages are available for all budgets. With Disneys Honeymoon Registry, couples also may complete a gift registry for elements to comprise an all-inclusive honeymoon to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Disney Cruise Line and Disney Vacation Club. Jeanee writes: "Hi there, My Fiance and I are looking to sneak away to Disney to get married. Kinda like a Vegas thing. Is there a way to do it cheap with no guests, just him and I? Thanks." Sneaking away to get married is not the best way to go about making such a serious and lifelong commitment. The support of family and friends right from the start is crucial to making your marriage a success. That said... The cheapest way is to have a non-Disney wedding and have your honeymoon at Walt Disney World. We have created six themed honeymoon vacations that include five nights at a Disney Resort, tickets and meals starting at $1,600.

Ceremonies can take place in the theme parks and cost between $15,000 and

premium wedding for 100, $30,000 - $35,000; a lavish wedding for 100, $50,000

background.
Ashley writes: "My husband and I honeymooned at WDW from April 16-23, 2006. It was amazing. This was my 5th trip and his 1st. We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside, in Magnolia Bend. Our room was wonderful, and the noise was not bad. We included the dining package, and it is a must!!!! We ate at Cinderella's royal table which was absolutely amazing. When the cast members realized that we were on our honeymoon, we were given the best table in the entire restaurant which had a view overlooking the carousel. They had decorated our table with a heart shape out of Mickey shaped confetti. It was truly magical. We also ate at Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge. this is my favorite Disney restaurant. However, our server made us go to the front of the entire restaurant and reenact our wedding day kiss. It was really embarrassing, but so much fun. Our first day at Disney we wore our bride and groom baseball caps. A cast member saw it and told us to go to city hall and get a congratulations pin. We got a lot of special attention just for being on our honeymoon. Staying at Port Orleans was not bad, just bus issues. One day at the magic kindom, we were waiting for our resort bus, which had just left. A cast member in a van called us over and asked where we needed to go to, and we told him. He then pointed us to a bus and told the driver to take us to our resort. We were the only ones on the bus, and when we got to our resort, everyone was staring and we were [wondering] why. We discovered that the front of the bus had said vip. We laughed and thought it was funny. We went to downtown Disney one evening, and it was horrible. It was so congested with construction that it was very difficult to maneuver around. We also had the water park and more option, we did not even have time to use it. My husband says that on our next trip, we will stay at the same resort. Another good restaurant was Ohana. The food was really good, but it is a lot of food. It has a really fun environment. We caught the fireworks on the beach of the Polynesian and it was really relaxing and nice. A must see show is Fantasmic. For our wedding we walked out to the exit theme from Fantasmic. Seeing this show was so worth the wait, it is spectacular!!! Fantasmic was our favorite fireworks show, and it really made our wedding feel more special knowing that what we exited to ended up being a mass parade of characters on a boat. We look forward to returning to Disney soon."
Christine writes: "We are planning on getting married and would like to find a place for dinner that night in/around the Disney area. My question is whether or not you can wear your wedding attire into Epcot if you are having dinner at one of their restaurants. It would be nice to walk around the park afterwards and see the fireworks but I'm hearing from people that Disney doesn't allow it. Where would you suggest a nice, quiet place for two for dinner? A place with a small dance floor would be nice. don't think I have enough time to make a reservation at Victoria & Albert's but something along that line would be great." I am not familiar with Disney's official rules about wearing wedding attire at WDW. You may want to call Disney and ask. Perhaps one of our readers has some knowledge of this? For a romantic dinner with a great view, dine at Citricos at the Grand Floridian. They are supposed to offer a private dinner for two served outside. Ask about the view when you call. Victoria & Albert's is considered the best. I would try for a reservation. Other restaurants with high ratings include Artist Point Dining, Bistro de Paris, California Grill and Coral Reef Restaurant.
Christine wrote back: "I called V&A and was able to make a reservation. Ya!! I'll write a full review when I get back. Thanks again!!" Susie asked us where she could find wedding merchandise at WDW. For Theme Park merchandise, call 407/363-6200 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM EDT. Also check out the pixies.
Erica writes: Hi John, I am a subscriber to your on-line book and I was just wondering how far in advance I should book my honeymoon at Disney World... I would like to find the best deals but I don't know how soon I can book or when the best time is. We would like to stay at Disney for about 5-7 days and we will be driving... What do you suggest?" I would have Beth book your vacation now. She will evaluate what Disney is selling to make sure you get the best deal. That way you won't risk being shut out. Beth will change your package at no cost to you if a better deal comes along. It's a win - win situation. Now you can relax and focus on your wedding plans!
Brenda writes: "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I can not tell you how awesome your website has been. In October of 2004 I was married and had always dreamt of a Disney wedding, which was way out of reach for us. Your website provided us with [the Florida minister's] information and made that dream possible. so on 10/03/04 we were able to get married in a beautiful, reasonablly priced ceremony in Orlando. I can wait to get back on your site. Thanks again!!!!" Thank you, Brenda, for your generous comments! Donna and I are celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary this year. May your marriage be as blessed as ours has been.
Ronda writes: "I purchased a copy of your book early last year when I was researching a Disney vacation for my son and I. We ended up going on a Disney cruise and using [your travel agent] Beth to help us book it. She is absolutely wonderful!!! My son and I had the greatest time on the cruise (7 night eastern caribbean) and to top it all off I met a divorced dad who is now going to be my husband!!! We just got engaged ... at where else - Disney! He took me to dinner at Narcoossee's and proposed on the Beach at the Grand Floridian (his favorite resort)... Thank you very much for your help, and all that you do to make Disney an easier destination on a budget." Congratulations again, Ronda! Have a wonderful life together!
Brian sent us his Disney wedding
report: We spent the night in a hotel just south of Atlanta on the 30th, then arrived in Orlando the 31st, staying at a Days Inn for two nights. We rang in the new year that night, slept in the next morning, then drove to Cocoa Beach (first time for her boys) and spent the day there. We got up the morning of the 2nd, drove to Dixie Landings Resort, where we had reservations for five nights, six days. My son and I had been to Disney before three times, but she and her boys had not. We had a wonderful time, although our days were very full and we were constantly on the move. On the morning of the third, we drove into town to get our marriage license. That took about 3 hours or so. We got married Tues. morning. I took the boys to breakfast while my wife was getting her hair and make-up done. The limo picked the boys and I up at 9:30 while she was getting dressed. We went to the Polynesian Resort. We were married at Sunset Point, overlooking Cinderella's Castle. The ceremony was beautiful. The limo driver went back and picked up my wife and brought her to us. We had a Disney photographer taking pictures and LP Video do a video of the wedding. Rev. Jack Day was our minister. Everything was perfect. My wife was beautiful. I had not seen the dress at all and I had not looked at her the morning of the wedding at all. I just got up and got ready, helped get the boys ready while she was still in bed. Then she got up to get ready when we left to go eat breakfast. The weather was wonderful, everything was perfect. The ceremony was just perfect. We had cake and champagne, then took pictures, then we rode around in the limo for a couple hours. The kids loved it! We then went back to our room, changed, then went to Magic Kingdom - couldn't have been more perfect. My parents got me a video camera for Christmas, so we got lots of video of our trip. That night we took the monorail back to the Polynesian resort, dropped the kids off at Never Land, then my wife and I went back to our room, changed, and went to the California Grill at the Contemporary Resort for dinner. That was actually our first date alone. We picked up the kids at midnight and continued on with our Disney adventure. We did Epcot, MGM, Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom. We checked out of our room on Friday morning (the only day it rained and it poured for a few hours that morning) - I got soaked while I packed the car. We then went to Animal Kingdom for the day. After it closed, we went to downtown Disney for a few hours, then hit the road about 10:30 p.m. to head home. The kids had to be back to school on Monday morning, so we drove straight through. My wife drove from midnight until about 4:30 am, then I drove the rest of the way. We were exhausted, but we were also anxious to begin our new life together. The Disney package cost $3752 and included the resort, the passes, the wedding, the limo, the flowers, the cake and 1 bottle of champagne, plus a soloist (we chose a violinist) and 3-4 music choices. We paid $20 for a bottle of non-alcoholic champagne for the boys and $45 for my wife's hairdo (very beautiful) and I think $50 for a guy to come out and press her dress (it had survived the trip in the trunk in a trash bag). We chose the Ariel package for pictures, it was $700 and shot with a 35mm camera. We got 40 5x7 pics in a beautiful album, plus about 70 or so more in a box. Our photographer did an excellent excellent job. The videography cost $375 and also was excellent and included 3 songs of our choice. I think we spent about $1200 or so on food, gifts and the other hotels we stayed at. So the whole trip was just over $6000. We're still paying for it, but hey, I think most really nice weddings cost this much or more and with our situations, both being previously married and both having kids, what a great way to start a family together. That's my story, hope you like it. I'd love to be able to take the whole family back again soon, but we're going to have to do it much cheaper next time." Thank you, Brian, for sharing your wedding with us. Be sure to use our book next time. A vacation at WDW does not have to be expensive if you know the secrets!

Carleen writes: "In response to your reader that is celebrating a second honeymoon - I had read on your pages also to let them know several times that it is a special occasion for you. We did this and were not disappointed. On our trip the last week of May we stayed at the Beach Club resort - I had told them it was our 14th anniversary during our stay - they bumped us to the concierge level for free. We were there for 7 nights and that alone saved us an enormous amount on food that we got free - fabulous and available almost all day long on our floor. Also at our anniversary dinner at Flying Fish I had told them too of our special occasion and we received a free glass of champagne each and free dessert!"
Lisa writes: "I have two questions I cannot find the answers to, and hoped you would know the answers or could direct me to someone who could answer them. I am renewing my wedding vows ... in MN, and am having trouble finding an order of service with vows, music etc. On Oprah, I saw that Disney does many vow renewal ceremonies, but when I requested more information, I just got how to have the service at Disneyworld. Who could I contact to find out what their service is? The parts shown on Oprah and written on her transcript were lovely, but they were only short snippets of the actual service. Any information or contacts you can give me would be most appreciated." Disney only conducts wedding ceremonies and vow renewals at WDW. We have heard of couples designing their own weddings with a Disney theme. Here's an excerpt from a wedding report that Ida and her husband sent us: "The groom and best man took their places to the song "Can You Feel the Love Tonight", the bridal party walked down the aisle to "When You Wish Upon a Star", I walked down the aisle to "A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes", during our first kiss the DJ played a part of "Kiss The Girl" and we walked back down the aisle to "So This Is Love". We purchased mouse ears for each member of the wedding party, of course we had the bride and groom ears for us (Cost $6 for each person in the wedding party and $10 for each of us). We didn't tell anyone until we pulled them out for a group picture." (See our online book for the rest of the wedding report.) Regarding vow renewals at WDW, you can customize your vow renewal with any of the elements from Disney's wedding packages. For vow renewal information, see Disney's official site. For a minister who conducts vow renewals at WDW and elsewhere in Florida, click here. For a vow renewal to take place, you must present a copy of your original wedding certificate. For more information, brochure or video, call Disney at 407/828-3400. For more insider tips, see our book, "Secrets To An Affordable Walt Disney World® Vacation."
Jay writes: "I had emailed you a few times recently seeking your assistance for my plan to propose at WDW. I went [in May] and everything went off without a hitch. My original plan had been to surprise my now-fiancee with a weekend getaway to WDW. Then, while having dinner at the California Grill (contemporary) I would propose as the MK fireworks began (California Grill has an amazing view of the fireworks I'm told). Unfortunately my only night there, that wasn't a travel-day, was Friday, May 3rd - which happened to be prom-nite. On this nite they close the MK early and open it up for the prom-kids late at night - where they do fireworks @ 12:30 am. California Grill isn't open that late, so that plan was scrapped. Instead I surprised her by taking her to the Grand Floridian for dinner - which is special because we plan on honeymooning there next year. I wasn't sure which menu we'd like better so I made reservations for Citricos and Narcoossee's. After looking at the menus we chose Narcoossee's and requested a window seat so we could watch the Water Pageant. It was great - food, view, service, etc. - unbelievable. After dinner we walked about the GF sightseeing - although I was scouting out sites which might afford a great view of the fireworks for the big moment. Since I had a lot of time to kill before the 12:30 am fireworks I made us walk over to the polynesian as well (she's never seen either resort). On the beach at the polynesian I found the perfect spot. On a swinging chair, on the beach, right across the lagoon from MK with a perfect view of the castle. At 12:30 am the fireworks began and I proposed with them bursting right behind me. She was totally shocked and ecstatic. There were so many variables to this - so many places where something could have went wrong. But, everything went exactly as planned. It was a great nite and now she has a great story to tell when she's asked about how I proposed to her. Thanks for your assistance." It doesn't get any better than that! What a wonderful way to propose. May you both always treasure the magic of that moment throughout your years together. Thanks for sharing that special event with us.
Robin writes: "John, So far we love your book! My husband and I are going ... this year as a second honeymoon. Should I advise Disney of this in advance?? What kind of goodies do they give for such trips??" When you book your room, be sure to mention it. Then mention it again when you check in. Wearing a shirt that says you are on your second honeymoon will draw cast members' attention as well which might get your preferred seating. One of our customers on her honeymoon received champagne, had LOVE spelled out on their bed in leis and also got some sort of souvenir Minnie and Mickey artwork commemorating the event. Glad you are enjoying the book! For more insider tips, see our book, "Secrets To An Affordable Walt Disney World® Vacation."
Walt Disney World Wedding and Honeymoon Planning Resource:
The Unofficial Disney
Wedding Guide is a helpful site for those planning a honeymoon or
wedding at WDW. Features include photos, advice, reviews, vendor recommendations,
chat, discussion boards, etc.
Dave used our book for his last vacation at WDW when he celebrated his honeymoon and is now planning to return: "We had such a great time there on our honeymoon, and used your book to great effect - We made sure we ate at the times you noted and had a great meal at the Norway section of Epcot. I think this time we will follow your other advice and avoid the peak times."
Jay writes: "Your newsletter is great - I look forward to each and every one. My fiance-to-be and I visited WDW in May of 2001 and we'll be honeymooning there in May of 2003 at the Grand Floridian. We are not, as of yet, officially engaged, but my plan was to surprise her with a one day trip to WDW and pop the question there. I'd like any suggestions you can provide for a restaurant suitable for such an occasion. Since this will be a 1 day trip, and I'm on a budget, we will not be going to any of the parks. But I figured that between the resorts and Downtown Disney there should be a few romantic places with great food to choose from. I thought possibilities might include California Grille, Wolfgang Puck's, Bongo's, Portabello Yacht - but I've never been to any of these. Also, do you need PI tix in order to get into Portabello? Thanks in advance. I appreciate any feedback you can provide on the places I mentioned, as well as any new ideas - restaurants and/or other romantic sites not dining related." For a romantic dinner with a great view, dine at Citricos at the Grand Floridian. They offer a private dinner for two served outside. For romantic sites, our customers should log in and check out our "Romantic Tour of the Walt Disney World Theme Parks." You don't need to pay admission to eat at Portobello or any other restaurant at Pleasure Island. Only those visiting the clubs have to pay for admission. Glad you like the newsletter!

Vera writes: "Knowing about our group (7 adults and one kid) what suggestions do you have for our itinerary? How about transportation? Also, My Dad and his fiance would like to get married while we are there since everyone they want to part of the wedding will be there. It is the third marriage for both of them and they don't want anything big. They are content to just go to the courthouse. However, since we will be in such a fun place, My dad and I thought it would be neat to do something more fun. It shouldn't be more than about $500, just a simple ceremony somewhere interesting. None of Disney's packages are that reasonable. They insist you stay four nights on the property and whatnot. Do you have any suggestions? The ceremony could be ... somewhere else, universal, any pretty place will do, a fun restaurant, we are hoping you might have some ideas. Thanks for all the help." See our Customized Tours of the Walt Disney World® Theme Parks for an itinerary. Transportation options - limo, rental car, bus, etc., are in the book. Robyn writes: "I have purchased your book and await anxiously every month to receive your e-mails. I am a Disney fanatic from Philly and a Disney vacation club member. My husband and I are traveling to Disney on January 4th to participate in the WDW marathon on the 6th. We are participating in the marathon as part of the Leukemia Society's Team in Training Program. We will be staying at the Wilderness Lodge until Monday, January 8th and then moving to our vacation home away from home and staying until Wednesday, January 9th. To make a long story short, this will be our first trip to Disney without our kids and our unofficial second honeymoon since we haven't been away alone since our first one. Does Disney do anything special for those celebrating second honeymoons? Any info you could give us would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and have a safe and blessed holiday season." Be sure to tell Guest Services when you check in that you are on your second honeymoon. No guarantees, but Disney may do something special for you. Wearing a shirt that says you are on your second honeymoon will draw cast members' attention as well. For more insider tips, see our book, "Secrets To An Affordable Walt Disney World® Vacation."
Honeymoon Vacation Packages A subscriber writes: "I read the article in the news letter about couples spending their honeymoons at Disney. My fiancee and I are currently planning our honeymoon trip to Disney, but the package prices are extremely high. We already have our airfare from NY, so the package we received from AAA was for 9 nights at the contemporary resort starting from $3800.00. Does that seem high for a package without airfare? Also that included Disney passes for all 9 days, and we only wanted to go to Disney 6 or 7 days. After our trip I will send you an update, but the honeymoon package doesn't seem to include anything special besides a gift basket and one flex feature per person!" Now you know why we do not recommend vacation packages! Nine nights at the Contemporary + a 9-night/10-day Ultimate Park Hopper Pass for two will cost about $2,950. You're paying $850 for the gift basket and flex feature! And these are regular prices without discounts! Do it yourself following our advice and save over $1,000!
Sharon writes: "...my brother was there...for his honeymoon. They were staying at the Polynesian, but hadn't told them they were on their honeymoon. I saw in your book that Disney might do something special for them, if they mentioned their situation. They received champagne, had LOVE spelled out on their bed in leis and also got some sort of souvenir Minnie and Mickey artwork commemorating the event." Always tell Disney when you check in that you are on your honeymoon. Disney loves to make these wonderful surprise gestures!
