Walt Disney World Tickets - Part 4
Joe writes: "I have a question and I'm hoping you might know the answer? It's regarding Disney's Annual Pass. I was questioning one of the reservations people at Disney about getting the Annual Pass rate. She told me that the Annual Pass needed to be dated at least the day before my reservations where made. If I purchase an Annual Pass at my local Disney store, I believe I only get a voucher to be exchanged for my actual pass when I arrive at the park? Can I still use this to get a discounted room? I don't want to spend nearly $400, and then find out I can't get the discounted rate?" You will receive a voucher for your Annual Pass if you purchase it at the Disney Stores. You do NOT need the pass to get the AP discount on the phone. Just show your AP at check-in. The official rule is you need an activated pass at check-in, but many guests are not even asked to show it and many only have an unactivated voucher. In any event, do NOT buy the pass until you have booked the room and gotten the AP discount. |

Debbie writes: "I have purchased 4 day park hopper passes from your ticket agent upon the recommendation of your guide... My tickets arrived and they are small paper tickets... Have you seen these paper tickets before?" When you buy your passes off property, you receive paper passes, not the plastic cards Disney gives you at Guest Services. Both paper and plastic work the same.
Paul writes: "I have got a number of Theme Park tickets left over from a previous holiday. I have also been given a couple of partially used tickets from my in-laws. Is there a way to check, as in a web site perhaps, prior to getting to the entrance of a park, as to whether these tickets are still valid and/or exactly what is left on them? The tickets I have are Disney 5 day Hopper and Universal Studios. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated." The only way to tell how many days are left on a pass is to have your tickets scanned in person at Guest Services.
Rhonda writes: "We are planning on arriving at Disney on June 25 and will check into our room around 4:00 p.m. Can we get tickets to one of the parks at that time at a discounted price since we will not be in the park for an entire day? Do they offer anything like that? Thanks for your help and hopefully with your book we are going to be able to save money on this year's trip." During the summer, Disney sometimes offers reduced admission for late arrivals to its water parks. Ask at Guest Services. Have a fun and affordable WDW vacation! When you get back, send us a trip report for our new book, "Walt Disney World® Travelogues: Trip Reports For Arm Chair Travelers."
Sandy writes: "I'm just pouring over your tips and organizing last minute details for our trip to Disney. We leave in just over a week. Its sooooooooo exciting. Anyway, I know I read somewhere that we can leave the park and then return later in the day but I can't put my hand on the detail and just wanted to check to be sure. We are only at Disney for 2 days.... We are going to spend our first day at Magic Kingdom but really like your suggestion about leaving mid-day for a break at our hotel. What do we need to do in order to be able to return to the park later in the afternoon? Also, do your happen to know the March dates for E-Ticket nights?" There will be a castmember at the exit who will stamp your hand. Be sure you all get stamped before exiting. There are no E-Ride nights scheduled for March so far. Have a safe and fun vacation. Send me a trip report when you get back!
Sheryl writes: "A guy we know works for a time share company and has offered to get my family in the parks for $30 per person per day. But we don't get a ticket. Without a ticket we can't use the fastpass or park hop. Is the fast pass worth the extra $20 per person per day? Also, since we will be there in mid march will it be too cold for the water parks? Does Universal Studios use fast pass system?" Even Timeshares have to give you a ticket to enter the parks if that's part of the deal. Ask them to explain that. All ticket holders get to use FastPass. In March, temps are in the low 50's to lower 80's - swimming during the day will be ok. The pools are heated, so you can also swim at night. But it sure is cold when you get out of the pool! Universal Express Pass allows all guests to get priority access to certain attractions and rides. Universal Express Passes are available until one hour before closing (or until they are all taken) at 20 different distribution centers scattered throughout Universal's two parks. Passes can be used one hour after the park opens until closing. Universal Express Ride Access allows guests staying at the hotels on Universal property (Royal Pacific Resort, Portofino Bay Hotel and the Hard Rock Hotel) to enjoy no wait unlimited access to the rides and attractions at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure every day of their stay. Hotel guests must show their room key card at the Universal Express entrance to each attraction.
Kelly Jo writes about buying WDW passes on E-bay: "Disney makes it quite clear that all passes are non-transferable. And, people are taking a huge chance that there are any benefits left on the ones they purchase! Why ruin your vacation by taking such chances?"
Tim writes: "We want to visit the water parks, but are not going until mid-October. The average Highs are 84-85, and the lows in the mid-60s. Will it be too cold to enjoy the water parks? What do you think?" That's hot. Yes, go to the water parks. "We are planning a return trip. (We went in Jan. 2000 and had a blast!) Thanks to your book, we saved bunches, and are expecting to duplicate our effort!!!" Thank you, Tim, for your kind comments. Your feedback keeps us working hard to help all of our customers have a fun and affordable WDW vacation!
A subscriber writes: "I would like to know if my Disney Hopper passes from 1998 that i did not use are still valid to use this year? Yes, they are still valid. " If we buy the 4-day Park Hopper Pass (the best deal for us), do we have to use it four days IN A ROW? Or can we skip a day in the middle? (For example, Disney on Saturday and Sunday; somewhere else on Monday; then Disney again on Tuesday and Wednesday.) I hope you can help. Thanks! I love your book!" You can use your pass whenever you want. Thanks for your comments.

Diane writes: "We have three (5) day [park hopper] Passes from 1997. We only used 4 days and were told the only way to verify the tickets was to go to guest services at one of the theme parks and have them scanned. Thanks you for your assistance. Your newsletters are wonderful. We will be ordering the book this week."
You will have to visit Guest Services so they can scan
your tickets to see how many days you have left.
Midge writes: "Since I am going the end of November, will I really be using the water parks?"
November days are cool -- 77 degrees normal high.
Jenifer writes: "Is there a way to find out how many days are left on our hopper passes that we used last in 97? Also are they good for Animal Kingdom?" Guest Services will scan your passes when you get to WDW and tell you how many days are left. They will then cash in your old passes and issue new ones which will include the Animal Kingdom. You may want to use the old passes (which you bought at prices much lower than today!) and then buy new passes that include the Animal Kingdom when you run out. (Details on buying WDW passes at a discount are in our book.)
Francis writes: "Your book is really informative. We enjoy it very much. Last time when we were in Orlando, I saw a couple of booths along the International Drive (or the main street in Orlando) selling discount Disney Pass. Are they for real? Are they really cheap? Any comment on them?" If you see anyone selling tickets to the parks at a discount, particularly at a significant discount, they are probably linked to some kind of timeshare visit. Stick with people you can trust: Disney, AAA, travel agents, and the sources we recommend.

Barb writes: I purchased your book a few weeks ago. I am sure that i read some information in regards to upgrading to a seasons ticket, yet I can't seem to find it now. Can you please email me the details on this. Just go to Guest Services and tell them that you would like to upgrade to whatever pass you want. For example, let's say you have two days left on a 4-day park hopper pass, but you want to go into the parks four days. If you use those two remaining days, you will have to buy another 4-day hopper and will have two days left again, not to mention the additional expense of buying a 4-day hopper. (You could, of course, buy individual tickets at the gate for the two days, but you can't park hop.) Instead, Disney will refund the two days left and issue you another 4-day park hopper. Bottom line: you have a brand new 4-day park hopper pass and you only had to pay for half of it from your "out of pocket cash." The same method works on any pass upgrade. Disney will refund whatever you have left on your pass and issue you the new pass.
David writes: I will be going to Disney World this April 14th and 15th. I will have my wife and three children (ages 12, 11 and 5). I wonder if you have any ideas on a two-day visit? We would definitely suggest attractions in the Magic Kingdom, especially Buzz Lightyear's new ride, the Festival of the Lion King show at Animal Kingdom, Epcot's Tapestry of Nations Parade, and Fantasmic! at MGM. The fun part now is choosing what you want to see (read the descriptions and choose as a family) and plan your itinerary before you get there. Just remember that you can't do it all. Enjoy what you can.
Mary writes: I am interested in the 5% price increase coming this spring. My family and my sisters' family are planning a trip to WDW in May of 2000. We are wondering if we should purchase our entrance tickets before spring? We are planning to purchase them at the Disney Store in St. Cloud, MN. Do you know exactly when the price goes up? Any info would be helpful. Disney can raise its prices from January on. We advise all our customers who are going within a year or so to buy their tickets before January 1. The tickets never expire so you can use them any time in the future. By the way, even if Disney raises its prices, the Disney stores usually have old tickets left over. So, if for some reason you don't get them in time, be sure to ask if they have any tickets at the old prices.
